SHOPPERS trawling the malls of the MetroCentre for presents are being put in the festive spirit with free pantomime performances.
The centre's cuddly characters, the MetroGnomes, comprising Herbert, Sherbet, Maggot and Rusty, are appearing daily, entertaining young visitors in a specially-written show.
Performances are being staged in Exhibition Square, near Woolworth's, culminating in a firework display, on Saturday, January 6.
The storyline is based on the gnomes' preparations for a farewell party for a space traveller.
Shows are being staged two, three or four times a day.
The January 6 firework show will be in the Riverside car park, at 7.30pm
