A COMPANY has turned rubbish into a gift for a hospice.
Foreman Recycling, in Spennymoor, has spent the last few months collecting scrap cardboard from businesses in Bishop Auckland.
The company paid Bishop Auckland Hospice for the weight of card collected and, in a gesture of seasonal goodwill, added £600 to the donation.
The charity was presented with a £1,000 cheque on Monday.
Barbara Foreman, from the company, said: "The hospice asked businesses if they could save their cardboard and we collected it on their behalf.
"We then paid the hospice for the cardboard. That raised £80, and we also had a coffee morning which raised £320."
The recycling company plans to continue the fundraising scheme next year, by collecting the cardboard every fortnight.
It will then present a cheque for the money raised through the scheme to the Bishop Auckland Hospice next Christmas
