AN electricity meter reading must be a shocking experience at Ray Robson's home.
The 69-year-old is making a determined effort to win The Northern Echo's Ho Ho Homes competition this year, even if it means big energy bills.
Mr Robson, of Thorntree Gardens, Middleton St George, near Darlington, spent more than £300 adding to his Christmas lights and decorations this year.
He began putting them up in November and now uses 50 plugs to power the lights, which has resulted in his home being nominated for the competition for the second year in a row.
"I am quietly confident of winning the event this year," he said.
"I got one of my four grandchildren to perform the switch-on and people are coming from all around to see the display."
