A FORMER County Durham police officer is facing a court appearance over drink-drive allegations.
Alan Penman, 54, was arrested by police following a late night incident at Redworth Hall Hotel, near Bishop Auckland, on August 10 this year.
He has since been bailed by police and is due to appear in court in the near future.
George Oliver, a spokesman for County Durham police, said: "A 54-year-old man has answered bail and was told that he is being reported for a number of offences.
"These are driving with excess alcohol, careless driving, failing to stop and failing to report an accident.
"A court summons will be issued to him in due course."
Mr Penman, who is now retired, was previously a constable at Newton Aycliffe police station.
He held a number of posts including crime prevention officer and witness public liaison officer.
