THE Women's Royal Voluntary Service is hoping to take advantage of the Christmas spirit.
Volunteers are wanted to work on tea bars in prisons, magistrates' courts, and the Books on Wheels service.
WRVS volunteers will be on duty at tea bars in Durham, Low Newton, and Frankland prisons over the festive period.
The idea is to provide a relaxed atmosphere for people visiting relatives in jail at Christmas.
Josephine Rutherford, WRVS community service manager, said: "This boundless Christmas spirit is typical of our volunteers, who are committed to providing services to those in need.
"There are opportunities to volunteer in the community across Durham.
"We would urge anyone feeling in the Christmas spirit to join us as a volunteer and really make a difference."
