THIEVES took 23 plucked and headless turkeys just before they were delivered.
They broke into an outside storage block, at Farvone Vale Farm, Clint Lane, Bowes, in Teesdale, early yesterday.
Detective Constable Tim Gargett, of Barnard Castle police, said: "The poor farmer is devastated because he had spent a lot of time plucking and preparing the turkeys in time for Christmas.
"The thieves may have known the turkeys were there, and we are appealing to anyone who may have seen anything or have information about the whereabouts of the turkeys to contact us as soon as possible."
