POLICE are promising to give better coverage to two market towns.
There will be officers on duty round-the-clock across Ryedale, thanks to a new shift system being introduced in the New Year.
At present, Kirkbymoorside and Pickering have no cover at nights, and have to rely on officers from neighbouring areas.
Once officers finish their day shifts the two towns have to rely on cover from Malton and Helmsley.
Under the new system, they will have their own officers working through the night.
Full shifts will operate from April 1, with a senior inspector giving high-level cover at all times across Ryedale, Scarborough and Hambleton
