A TOUCH of Italian style is making the job of keeping Durham's streets clean easier.
The city council has taken delivery of Italian-made Piaggio three-wheeled cleaning vehicles.
With its hilly and narrow streets, the city can be difficult for larger cleaning vehicles to negotiate.
Council officials believe the Piaggios, which cost almost £3,000, and are due to begin service on January 2, are the ideal solution.
David Bell, the council's chairman of environmental services, said: "These Piaggios are quick, clean and nippy.
"We may even have would-be Pavarottis singing in their Piaggios, because they undoubtedly make the work of the street cleansing department easier.''
