A MAN found dead yesterday at a city shopping centre has been named as Terrence Appleton.
Mr Appleton, a married man in his 50s, lived in Elm Street, South Stanley.
Police believe that his body, which was found by cleaners at Durham City's Millburngate shopping centre, at about 8am, had been there all night.
Paramedics confirmed Mr Appleton was dead.
The area was cordoned off yesterday morning but, following a study of security camera footage, the investigation was scaled-down. Officers said there were no suspicious circumstances.
A Durham Police spokesman said: "The victim, who was alone at about 9.45pm on Thursday night, may have been looking for the toilets when he stumbled and fell down a flight of nine stairs.
"He was found to have a head injury which is believed to be the direct result of the fall
