YOUTH workers in north Durham have issued an appeal to adults in the area to become involved in helping youngsters.
Durham County Council Community Education Coordinator Martin Lightfoot said the service was desperately short of volunteers.
He said that many small village youth clubs had closed because of a shortage of people coming forward to train, or become, youth workers.
Mr Lightfoot, who is based in Stanley, said: "It is no good complaining about youngsters. We have got to help them organise activities for themselves."
