MEMBERS of Crook Golf Club's women's section braved a winter storm to raise £1,000 for three charities.
They turned out in force for a fundraising event staged by businesses Winning Lines and Roses' Giftware, after bad weather prevented consultants from cosmetics firm Clarins from travelling to the club for a beauty evening.
The golf club's lady captain, Brenda Burdess, presented the proceeds, £500 each, to Beryl Anderson, from the Butterwick Hospice at Bishop Auckland, and the chairman of Wear Valley District Council, Councillor Anne Newton, who is dividing her charity appeal between the diabetes laser appeal at Bishop Auckland General Hospital and the breast cancer research fund.
Clarins has rearranged the beauty evening for January 23. The event will be free to anyone holding tickets for the cancelled event.
