A VILLAGE'S plans for a sports centre may be rejected because of flooding fears.
Brompton Parish Council saw a decision on the complex deferred by Hambleton District Council recently, to allow members to make a site visit.
The district council also wanted to give the Environment Agency time to consider the proposal, which would be sited on a flood plain. The agency has now strongly objected to the building on Brompton sports field.
A spokesperson said: "The site lies within the flood plain of Brompton Beck and is known to have flooded during recent events. There is concern that the site may have flooded more extensively than shown on the existing records. However, the agency has yet to collate and amend this information.
"Once the agency has had the opportunity to collate and assess the recent flood data, the survey information may allow the flood risk to be more accurately determined."
Planning officer Helen Laws said: "The applicant does not wish to withdraw the application to allow the proposal to be reassessed, and no amendments have been received."
Committee members will be urged to reject the plan on Thursday, January 4.
