QUAKERS' manager Gary Bennett came under fire from travelling fans when his side were well beaten at table-topping Chesterfield on Boxing Day.
A reshuffled Darlington side, missing the injured Jesper Hjorth and Paul Heckingbottom, did not force former Quakers' goalkeeper Mike Pollitt into a single save as the Spireites coasted to a 2-0 victory.
Both goals came before half-time. First, Sean Parrish crashed home a loose ball from the edge of the box, then Luke Beckett squeezed a shot home from a narrow angle.
Bennett's decision to take off new striker John Williams in the second half was greeted with boos, but the veteran front man was suffering from toe and hamstring injuries.
On Saturday, Bennett enjoyed a happier time when his side beat Lincoln City 3-0 - only their second win in ten games.
Williams linked up well with fellow striker David McMahon and it was the teenager who opened the scoring after seven minutes, heading home Martin Gray's accurate cross.
It was two after 25 minutes when Heckingbottom calmly brought down a free-kick and slotted the ball home with the Imps appealing for offside. The game was made safe on the hour when Williams was tripped when through on goal. Visiting defender James Dudgeon was sent off, and Brian Atkinson netted from the spot.
Quakers could have had several more goals, with Glenn Naylor and McMahon going close.
Youngster Mark Kilty, drafted into defence in place of the suspended Neil Aspin, gave a superb display at the back.
Tomorrow, Quakers travel to Exeter City, while on New Year's Day they are at home to Rochdale.
