CHILDREN at a local drama group look like the cats that got the cream - after receiving their second generous grant this month.
The Children's Amateur Theatre in Shildon, known as Cats, has just been awarded £250 from leisure group Whitbread.
The drama group, set up earlier this year, is a big hit with aspiring, young actors.
Every week, 40 stage-struck youngsters between eight and 15-years-old meet at Sunnydale School, in Shildon, to learn all aspects of drama, from writing plays to stage positions. Young people also steer the group through their own management committee.
The performers come from Shildon, Bishop Auckland and Newton Aycliffe, and under the guidance of two qualified drama teachers and a youth leader, have embarked on a number of projects.
Earlier this month, Cats announced it had received a £3,000 Awards for All lottery grant to buy a PA system and microphones.
Cats volunteer Derrick Robinson said: "The money from Whitbread will help with our running costs."
Whitbread regional director Tom Bramley said: "We are delighted to be able to support such an innovative group which helps children learn new skills and look at real issues."
