A COUPLE who have lived in the same house, in James Street, Spennymoor, since they arrived there a few hours after their marriage at Swalwell, have celebrated their golden wedding.
Ernie Aungiers met his bride, Sheila, on Tyneside after serving in the Fleet Air Arm during the war.
He had been working as a railway blacksmith at Dunston, and was pleased to be transferred to Spennymoor - the town where he had been born.
Ernie later worked as a council rent collector for 13 years, while Sheila worked at Siemens. She was also employed as a home help, and then as a cleaner at Spennymoor Leisure Centre.
The couple have a daughter Linda, a son David, and two grandchildren
