AN Army student from the region received a top educational prize when she graduated from foundation college.

The former Haughton Comprehensive pupil, joined the college in January. She has gained NVQs in information technology and key skills at level two, as well as a Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award and a first aid certificate from the St John Ambulance.
She has completed her phase one basic military training and will continue on more advanced levels, enabling her to join the 39 Regiment Royal Artillery as a gunner signaller.
Her father, Geoff, stepmother Letitia and stepsisters Amber and Devon attended Hildebrand Barracks, where the Army's Master of Ordnance, Major Peter Gilchrist, presented her with her award.
As part of her Duke of Edinburgh Award, Louise took part in swimming and orienteering.
She said: "When I was 11, I nearly drowned in a river and it took away all my confidence. I feel really proud that I have finally learnt."
