ARSENAL 2, SUNDERLAND 2
GRITTY Sunderland staged an astonishing second half fight-back to win a point against all the odds at Highbury.
The Wearsiders were trailing 2-0 at the break through goals from Patrick Viera (5 mins) and Lee Dixon (40 mins) and Arsenal could easily have been five goals to the good but for an inspired performance by goalkeeper Thomas Sorensen, who made three outstanding saves.
But Sunderland looked a completely different team after the interval and got the shot in the arm they needed when ace marksman Kevin Phillips claimed his 11th goal of the season from the penalty spot in the 52nd minute after Vieira handled.
The goal gave the Wearsiders new heart and seemed to rattle second-top Arsenal, but it took a superb goal from midfielder Gavin McCann in the 82nd minute, hitting a shot-on-the-turn from the corner of the penalty box, to give Peter Reid's men a share of the spoils
It was Sunderland's seventh point from a highly productive holiday programme, which continues on Monday with a home game against Ipswich Town.
