AT least Yorkshire's famous weather guru had something to celebrate yesterday.
Amateur forecaster Bill Foggitt, has been predicting the weather for decades, using past records and the behaviour of the flora and fauna near to his his Thirsk home as benchmarks.
His uncanny knack of getting it right brought him fame - and yesterday he did it again.
Bill went on record weeks ago, predicting a sudden end to the unusually mild winter about December 29 - and, although much of North Yorkshire escaped the worst, temperatures were still plummeting to well below freezing again last night.
The 87-year-old said yesterday: "I think the cold snap will be with us a few days more. It'll get warmer again - but the frost and snow will be back in January.''
Bill also predicts a respite in February, before another cold snap in March
