THE founding member of a residents' association is today awarded the MBE for her community work.
Ena Savage started the Central Estate residents' association, at Hartlepool, ten years ago and, since then, has worked to improve the local environment.
The former councillor and school governor is also honoured for work with the North Hartlepool Partnership, which aims to further the interests of Hartlepool through community work and investment.
Speaking last night about her MBE, Mrs Savage said: "I am absolutely shell-shocked. It is very nice to be appreciated. We have also seen a lot of benefits from the association in the area. It has done a lot of good and I hope it will continue to have the same effect.
