THE speed limit is to be cut from 30mph to 20mph in Sunderland city centre.
In the past three years there have been 70 injury accidents in the city centre.
The new limit, to be introduced in April, will affect the ring-road system of St Mary's and St Michael's Ways, West Wear Way and Borough Road.
All streets within the area will be included, along with Holmeside and Fawcett Street.
Police have warned they will strictly enforce any new limits.
