SUNDERLAND Football Club has scored a winner by scooping the name of music superstar Robbie Williams.
Robbie showed his true colours when friend Kevin Phillips gave him the shirt the striker wore to score the goal which took the Black Cats to victory over Newcastle in August 1999.
The star donned the red and white number ten strip immediately, while still on Magpies' turf, backstage at Newcastle's Telewest Arena.
A well-known Port Vale supporter, the singer appears to have a secret passion for Sunderland, and let the Wearside Roar use pictures of him in the shirt for the New Year edition, which is on sale now.
A Sunderland spokesman said: "We are delighted Robbie Williams has chosen to wear a Sunderland AFC shirt at his concert - he obviously has good taste.
"He is now among a number of famous people believed to be fans of the club."
