Byers Green
The Under-10s Haze team had a very good day on Saturday, defeating one of their closest rivals in the league. They beat South Tyneside 1-0 in the first game and went on to win their league cup quarter final in a local derby with Willington.
Against Tyneside, a goal in the last five minutes from new signing Adam Peart was enough to ensure three vital points. The ball was crossed from the right by DJ Simpson and flicked on by Richard Suddes before Adam pounced in front of the keeper to stab the ball home. In an end to end game there were also fine perfomances from goalkeeper Adam Jackson and Ethan Rivers in defence.
In the second game Byers defeated Willington 3-1 in a league cup quarter final. Byers opened the scoring midway through the first half after good work in midfield between Reece Ellis and DJ Simpson the ball found Suddes in the box, who unselfishly passed to Daniel Russell to drive home into the far corner, from a better position. The second goal came just a few minutes later, a strong clearance from defence was held up well by Suddes who laid the ball out to winger DJ Simpson, DJ still had plenty to do but finished in style, beating the keeper with a well struck shot into the corner of the net. Richard Suddes added the third early in the second half, getting on the score sheet himself, after being involved in all of Haze's goals on the day. A good cross from DJ Simpson found Richard in the penalty area, who struck the ball cleanly and powerfully passed the onrushing goalkeeper. Willington pulled one back with five minutes to go, but there was to be no further goals which meant Byers go through to the semi finals in March.
The Under-10s Bees played just the one league game, going down 1-0 to Willington in a keenly fought local derby, with Chris Storey producing a man of the match defensive display.
