Ithe qualifying round-robin for two players to reach the semi-final stage, Jimmy Evans of Shotton Palms played Norman Kirkley of Hunwick in the first game and won very easily as Kirkley failed to find his range, while Evans put in a 31 break.

In the second game Fred Lintern of Willington faced Kirkley, who showed a vast improvement on his first performance and looked a likely winner as he built up a good lead. However Lintern recovered to pull back and, with some good safety play, edged through to victory.

In the third match, Evans stayed steadily in the lead of Lintern throughout as both players qualified for the next stage.
