TWO Durham City businessmen have pitched in to buy strips for Durham Constabulary's rugby team.
Steve Anderson and partner Jeff Metcalf, who own the Caf Rock nightclub, in North Road, have teamed up with Scottish and Newcastle Brewery to sponsor the first and second 15 to the tune of £3,000.
Both strips will carry the brewery's brand-names, the Caf Rock logo and the force crest.
Team secretary and treasurer PC Maurice Allen, who is based at Stanley, said: "We are delighted to be given this sort of sponsorship."
Mr Anderson said: "We are happy to be giving support to sport in the community."
The rugby team, which was promoted to division three of the Durham and Northumberland league last season, is looking for more players.
Training is on Wednesday nights, at 7pm, at police headquarters, at Aykley Heads, Durham.
Details are available from first-team captain Richard Knowles, on 0191-386 7116.
The majority of the team are not members of Durham Constabulary, and new players from outside the force are welcome.
