AN old people's home, which was closed controversially more than a year ago, looks likely to be replaced by houses and flats.
Pannal Grange, in Harrogate, was one of four homes closed in a cost-cutting exercise by North Yorkshire County Council in 1999, despite a campaign for their retention.
Plans have been unveiled to demolish the home and build 13 town houses and 12 flats.
Almost 100 letters of objection have been sent to Harrogate Borough Council, including 65 from parents of children at a nearby school.
The objectors have raised concerns about increased traffic, the density of the building and the loss of open space.
However planning officials are recommending that councillors approve the plans when they meet next week.
