FOUR orphans are proving playful guests at one of the region's animal sanctuaries.
Soon after kittens Tibby and Jake, both toms, and their sisters Molly and Curly Sue were born a month ago, their mother Tigger died from eating a poisoned rabbit.
She had been with shelter owners Sally and David Rowley since August, arriving while they were settling into their new home Hope House, near Crawleyside, high on the fells above Stanhope, in Weardale, County Durham.
Now Sally and David are appealing to animal lovers to help them make a success of their sanctuary, which they run with the help of daughters Joanne, 16, and ten-year-old Nicole.
They are also hoping to find owners for the kittens.
Sally said: "Tigger was a lovely cat and her kittens are just as friendly. They want to come out and play but they are too small.
"We would love to see them go to a good home. They each have their own lovely personality."
