A COUPLE who feared their dreams of family life had died along with their much-loved three-year-old daughter are now looking forward to the birth of a new baby.
A year ago this month, North Yorkshire couple Robert and Susan Smith suffered the trauma of losing their only child - three-year-old Hannah - after unsuccessful surgery to correct an inherited heart condition.
As they struggled to come to terms with the loss of their "one in a million" daughter, they were told that they would have to have tests to determine whether it would be safe to try for another child.
They got the go-ahead from genetic experts, and Robert and Susan have now been given the joyful news that a baby is on the way.
"We can't replace Hannah, or forget her, but this will be some compensation for losing our wonderful little girl," said Robert.
