PEOPLE in County Durham are being offered the chance to get tax advice on their doorstep instead of having to travel.

The Sunderland tax office is holding advice sessions at Stanley JobCentre today at Consett JobCentre. The session will be held from 10am to 1pm.

A session will be held in Chester-le-Street Job Centre on Tuesday, also between 10am and 1pm.

Inland Revenue staff will be available to give advice about tax and National Insurance matters. Anyone with a query is welcome, and no appointment is necessary,

Cath Joyce, customer service manager at Sunderland tax office, said: "We realise that it is very inconvenient for most people to travel to Sunderland Tax Office.

"The JobCentres have agreed to allow the Inland Revenue use of their premises to hold these sessions.

"We hope that local people will take the opportunity to use this service. Depending on demand, we may be able to extend it in the future.

"We will be able to help people with their general tax and National Insurance queries. We will also answer questions about the Working Families Tax Credit, and the Disabled Persons Tax Credit.

"If you want to know more, make a date with us. Whatever the query we will be able to help. No appointment is needed," she said.
