BUILDING firm Leech Homes, of Newcastle, answered a request from Westgarth Primary School, Redcar, for hedgerows and shrubs to put around its new security fence.
Alan Jemmerson, the site manager at the company's Redcar development, received a letter from headteacher Neil Burton asking for donations following a series of vandalism attacks at the school.
The school wanted plants uprooted by the house builder on their site in Highcliffe View.
He said: "We were more than happy to contribute to the school's replanting programme.
"It's bad enough that we have to remove hedgerows and disturb wildlife, so if they can be put to good use elsewhere then that is something I want to be part of.
"The children at Westgarth Primary School are an example to us all, and I commend them for their initiative."
The school hopes the new borders will brighten up the area, create a new wildlife habitat, and act as a deterrent to potential burglars.
The school is also planning to create an outdoor classroom to highlight its wildlife environment
