CONTROVERSIAL plans for a new housing development have been deferred amid concerns about flooding.
Wimpey Homes wants to build 13 houses at White House Farm, in West Rounton, near Northallerton.
Although there are objections from the parish council and local villagers, Hambleton's planning officials recommended approval.
However, councillors put back any decision because of fears about flooding in the area.
Land nearby has already been flooded and councillors expressed fears that the water surface drainage on the site was inadequate.
"It would be extremely foolhardy to decide anything until the present situation is sorted out," said Councillor June Imeson.
She added: "There will be a development of some description on the site because it is in the district-wide local plan.
