ORGANISERS of a free fireworks spectacular are sure the event will go off with a bang today.
The fireworks show for children will be held at the MetroCentre, Gateshead, in honour of resident children's fictional character, Millie from Outer Space.
Millie came to the MetroCentre to visit her friends, the MetroGnomes, who entertain children while their parents are busy shopping.
The MetroGnomes - Herbert, Sherbert, Maggot and Rusty- now plan to send Millie back to her home planet of Amicus in a special rocket housed in the MetroCentre's town square.
The rocket will be on display all day.
The entertainment starts at 7pm, at the centre's Riverside car park, and the first fireworks will be lit at 7.30pm.
Viewing of the fireworks is from the yellow multi-storey car park.
