A MAN who suffered a fractured skull in a New Year's Day attack is making good progress in hospital.
The 26-year-old has been in Newcastle General Hospital since the assault at a terrace house in Frederick Street, Seaham, County Durham.
Last night, a Durham Police spokesman said the man's condition had "significantly improved" and he may be allowed home soon.
An 18-year-old man, who suffered a fractured skull, and a 38-year-old man with broken limbs, remain in hospital.
All three, from the Shiremoor area of North Tyneside, were battered with baseball bats.
Detectives have questioned five Seaham men in connection with the attack. They have been released on police bail pending further inquiries.
Detective Inspector Paul Ewart said police had spoken to several people in connection with two other incidents in Seaham, which are believed to be linked to the Frederick Street attack.
He said: "We have spoken to a number of people regarding a disturbance at the Duke of Wellington pub, on the night of Boxing Day, and an incident in Fern Crescent, on New Year's Eve, when one of the houses in the street had its windows smashed.
"But we are convinced there are other people who have not yet come forward who may have something vital to add."
Anyone with information is asked to telephone Seaham CID on 0191-581 2255.
