FOUR teenage boys had a lucky escape after falling through ice while playing on a frozen lake.
A 14-year-old and three 13-year-olds plunged into the icy water of Leazes Park boating lake, Newcastle.
The boys, all from Newcastle's West End, had been cycling and playing on scooters on the ice before it gave way on Friday afternoon.
They managed to break a path through the ice to reach the water's edge, with the help of passers-by.
They were taken to Newcastle General Hospital suffering the effects of cold.
The accident came just two days after a Wearside schoolboy almost lost his life after he fell through ice on Silksworth Lake, Sunderland.
Jamie Guiheen, eight, was rescued by two passers-by in Tuesday's incident.
