A COMMUNITY united to make a clean sweep of its latest beach care project.
Members of the Saltburn 500 Club were joined by the Guisborough Sea Cadets and local volunteers for their litter survey and clean up of Saltburn beach - popular with wetsuit-clad surfers and visitors alike.
The project, which was the first in a programme planned for the year, was carried out as part of local people's participation in the Adopt a Beach scheme, run by the Marine Conservation Society.
Saltburn beach was initially adopted by the 500 Club, made up of about 500 local people who run initiatives to enhance the community.
Jackie Taylor, its membership secretary, said the Guisborough Sea Cadets were keen to do their part.
"We adopted the beach last year and since then, the sea cadets have joined us," she said.
The group's efforts were rewarded when the rubbish it collected weighed in at 200kg.
Ms Taylor said she was looking forward to the next clean up.
"There will be more in April and June, and a big national one in September," she said
