THE North's biggest union has won a major employment tribunal.
Last February, furniture manufacturer Scheme Design closed its Benton Industrial Estate site, in Newcastle, with the loss of 65 workers.
The GMB claimed that the firm had failed to consult its members over their redundancies.
At a tribunal yesterday, the union won its case and secured a protective award of 60 days' pay for each of the 65 workers.
GMB regional organiser John Johnson said: "This is a tremendous result for our members.
