THE mammoth task of taking down a town's Christmas decorations was undertaken with the help of a hoist yesterday.
Volunteers from the Saltburn 500 Club gathered in the town centre to remove the decorations paid for by the club.
They even checked each light in turn to ensure that it will be fit for action nextChristmas.
Tony Lynn, a member of the club, said it was a real community effort.
"They got a few down on Friday but the decorations on the lampposts were still up, so they had to use a hoist that was borrowed from the electricity board," he said.
"The lights, electricity, repairs and all the other expenses were paid for by the club, and everyone taking them down was a volunteer.
The decorations are part of the life of Saltburn, and they are something a lot of people get a lot of pleasure from."
