A WATERSPORTS centre planned for a Teesside seaside town could be completed by September.
The centre, at Saltburn, has been hit by problems, but is now finally getting off the ground.
The building will incorporate a caf, two retail units, changing facilities and toilets, plus viewing area and clubhouse facility.
As part of the package, the scheme will include refurbishment to the existing toilet block on the promenade, including a base for the lifeguard service.
Now Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council has agreed in principle to take over the management of the project, one of the Saltburn Improvement Company's flagship schemes.
Funding for the Improvement Company's coordinator and a part-time member of staff ended in September, and while it searches for other sources of funding, the council has agreed to look after its contracts on its behalf.
The council is now arranging talks with government officials at the regional development agency One NorthEast, as well as the Improvement Company about a funding package.
Peter Lane, the council's head of leisure services, said: "We believe we will soon be in a position to clear up all the doubts over the building and have the project completed by late August or early September.
