A TEENAGER was fighting for his life in hospital last night after a road accident left him with serious head injuries.
Sixteen-year-old Jamie Colin Sanders was struck by a car as he attempted to cross the A64 dual carriageway, near York, during the evening rush hour.
Yesterday, he was still under intensive care at York District Hospital, where staff described his condition as critical.
The teenager, who lives in Bullamoor Road, Northallerton, was crossing the east-bound carriageway, by Bilbrough Top, to reach a west-bound bus stop when the accident happened.
He was struck by a green Peugeot 206 driven by Annette Ingram, of Carlton Street, York, and thrown into the nearside lane.
The accident happened in the dark, at about 5.30pm, and police are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.
In particular, they want to speak to the driver of a car - possibly a green Fiat Punto or something similar - who stopped beside the youngster, protecting him from other traffic as he lay in the road
