AN after-school club is offering youngsters the chance to learn about local history and art with workshops and field trips.
A £200 grant from the Newcastle-based Greggs Trust will enable South Moor After School Homework Club, in Stanley, to take children on trips to heritage centres such as the Laing Art Gallery and Durham Cathedral.
Volunteer mentor June Wade said: "The club has been going for three years now, and was initiated by Durham County Arts, Libraries and Museums with funding from the Prince's Trust.
"The club was formed to provide study support for young people aged between eight and 15 who would not or could not attend school centre studies."
Three volunteers run the group. Anyone willing to help should call June on (01207) 235596.
