COUNCILLORS are calling for a leisure attraction, including a swimming pool, to be built on the site of a seaside funfair earmarked for closure.
Seaburn's funfair, in Sunderland, is to close by the end of March, opening up the possibility of a major redevelopment.
John Crow and Sons, which has held the lease on Ocean Park since 1988 has begun dismantling the fairground.
Local councillors have called for expansion of the nearby Seaburn Centre onto the site, creating a swimming pool, and opening up the seafront all year round.
Sunderland is currently going ahead with plans to turn its seafront into a network of new zones linking leisure facilities, bars, restaurants and cafes
