ANDY Toman the much-travelled midfielder wants to try his hand at management.
Toman, who played for several Northern league clubs in his career and won an FA Vase winners medal with Whitby three years ago, hasn't been involved with a club since leaving Spennymoor two months ago, although he is involved in coaching youngsters at the moment.
But he feels that he has something to offer a club at Northern League level.
"I've been on a coaching course which led to me getting my UEFA A badge. Nicky Law, who is manager at Chesterfield, was on the same course, and look where he is now. He might be manager of a team in the Second Division next season.
"I feel that I've got plenty to offer a club which might want to take a chance on me."
Toman played in the Football League with Darlington - as well as appearing in their Conference winning team - Hartlepool, Scunthorpe and Scarborough.
Northallerton are through to the next round of the North Riding Senior Cup after winning on penalties at Pickering on Tuesday night, the sides level at 1-1 after extra time, Andy Raw scoring for Northallerton late in the game. Guisborough defeated New Marske 7-0 in the same competition. Michael Todd (4), Michael Carter, Gary Hinchley and Richie Storr were the scorers.
League leaders Durham City suffered a shock 2-1 defeat at the hands of Consett on Tuesday night. Consett took the lead after 25 minutes when David Young scored from a Kieron McGinlay cross. Durham were reduced to ten men when Paul Symons was sent off for his second bookable offence. Colin McLeod made it 2-0 after the break with a low shot, before Durham pulled a goal back through Gavin Mudd.
Durham piled on the pressure in the closing stages, and although Consett had McLeod sent off, they couldn't break through again. The defeat came only four days after Durham seized the initiative from champions Bedlington in a 1-0 win last Friday night.
Easington climbed above Morpeth at the bottom following a 2-0 win at Craik Park. Easington gave a debut to former Blyth and Seaham winger Maurice Hilton, and he set up the opening goal with a left wing cross for Ian Matthews after 20 minutes. Christian Robson added the second from another Hilton cross after 63 minutes following a good break by Gavin Naylor.
However, there was a boost for Durham on Wednesday night when Bedlington Terriers lost 3-2 at home to Newcastle Blue Star, after two goals from John Milner had the champions 2-0 up at one stage. Milner was denied his hat trick by a post before Star pulled one back through Mike Cowans. It all went sadly wrong for Bedlington in the second half. Shaun Beech scored from a free kick which went through Jon Egan's legs, Milner went off injured, then Bedlington's Brian Rowe missed a penalty on 83 minutes after Willie Moat had been fouled. With five minutes left, Lee Suddes scored from a penalty for Star.
Billingham Town and Dunston shared the points in a 1-1 draw. Paul Rowntree put Town ahead after 55 minutes but three minutes later Nicky Scaife equalised.
Crook Town won their first game of the season by 4-2 at Hebburn. Martin Blyth put them ahead after three minutes and three minutes later Blyth set up Neil Burn for a second. Chris Leighton pulled a goal back from the spot after Mark Laidler had been fouled. Blyth put Crook 3-1 up. Five minutes fromthe end Leighton scored a second but Blyth made sure of Crook's long-awaited win with a scrambled goal two minutes from the end.
Seaham Red Star won 4-2 at Jarrow Roofing. Tony Cullen, Dave Taylor, Gary McDonald and Dave Ross scored their goals, with Craig Stoker and Paul Chow replying. In the Northern League Cup, Tony Hanson scored a hat-trick as Brandon destroyed Shotton 6-1. Micky Cunningham (2) and Dave Robson got the other goals. In the other tie, Marske won 3-2 at Horden.
West Auckland reached the semi final of the Durham Challenge Cup on Monday night with a 1-0 win at Feethams against Darlington.
West took the lead after 21 minutes, when Jonathan Milroy was upended by Darlington keeper Keith Finch inside the area, and Paul Harnett sent the keeper the wrong way from the spot.
West Auckland manager Alan Oliver said: "We played to our strengths and worked hard throughout.
"At least we put the 4-0 defeat at Guisborough last Saturday behind us. Now we must start picking up points in the league. We've got a lot of games to catch up on."
Tow Law joined West in the semi finals when they beat South Shields 7-3, scoring four goals in the second half. Shields took the lead through youngster Neil Maddison early on, but Wayne Edgcumbe quickly levelled. Nigel Bolton put Lawyers ahead only for Paul Thompson to equalise from the penalty spot. Bolton made it 3-2 before half time. Scott Nicholson and Edgcumbe put Tow Law into a 5-2 lead. Thompson pulled another back, but then Paul Richardson made the score 6-3, and Edgcumbe completed his hat trick in the last minute. Tow Law have now scored 15 goals in their last two home games.
The semi-finals draw for Albany Durham Challenge Cup is; Bishop Auckland v Tow Law, Brandon v West Auckland. Ties are to be played on or before Saturday February 10.
l Tow Law defender Marc Eccles has turned down an approach from UniBond League club Whitby.
