A POLICE force has collared a prize guaranteed to arrest football fans in their tracks.

Cleveland Police has been presented with a Middlesbrough Football Club away shirt, signed by all the players, which it plans to auction for charity.

Assistant Chief Constable Della Cannings says it is the crimefighters' goal to raise as much money for charity as possible, and the shirt will give them a kick-start.

Sealed bids are being invited for the shirt, which comes with a letter of authentication.

"Ten good causes throughout Cleveland benefited in the form of food, gifts and cash from our last charity push,'' she said. "Everyone pulled together and made a marvellous effort to help.

"There were various fundraising initiatives, which collected a total of £2,102.41 in cash. Staff also brought in a massive amount of tinned goods, confectionery and toys to make up hampers, and that alone must have been worth more than £4,000.''

Anyone interested in the shirt should send an offer to Ms Cannings at Police Headquarters, Ladgate Lane, Middlesbrough, by the end of the month
