The rearranged match between the top two teams, Wings from Stockton and Hartlepool Royal was a thriller with the latter gaining a 4-3 victory to take the leadership.
The two captains were on first, Jean Atkinson (15.69) defeating Jackie Allison (16.08) 3-2, to put The Royal ahead. Vee Page (144.45) beat Jean Robinson (12.86) 3-1 to level the match and then player of the match Pat J Smith (21.47) beat Ellen Humble (17.07) 3-0 to put Wings in front. But the teams were was soon level again when Babs Evans (16.58) beat Rhonda Page (14.24) 3-2. Julie Sorby (18.11) beat Jean Hagan (17.28) 3-2. to give The Royal a 3-2 lead and the pairs were shared giving a final score of 4-3 to The Royal.
Cleveland county entertain Gwynedd on the 20/21 January.

Crook Three Blue Bells cut the lead of Crook Mill House at the top to five points, with the Bells having a match in hand, dropping two points on their visit to Crook Crown Hotel. The Mill House were made to struggle at home before edging through against Oakenshaw Club by the odd point.
The leading individual scorers were Carol Haygarth 135 and Rachel Anderson 134 for the Three Blue Bells, Gillian Thompson 125 for the Mill House, Irene Clark 120 for the Coach and Horses and Denise Taylor 116 for the White Swan.
