A YOUNG time team made history when it buried evidence of 21st Century life under the floor of their school.
Youngsters from Houghton Kepier School, in Houghton-le-Spring, Wearside, spent months recording everyday life in and around their town, through photographs, videos and words.
Yesterday, the recordings were sealed in an airtight time capsule and buried in the foyer floor of the school, in Dairy Lane.
A circular piece of concrete was cut from the floor and, after the capsule had been lowered into place, a marble-inscribed plaque sealed the hole.
Youngsters throughout the school were involved in the project and teacher Peter White said they were keen to play their part. He said: "All the pupils involved thoroughly enjoyed taking part and are fascinated as to who will eventually open the capsule and discover its contents.
"It will also serve as a focal point for years to come as future visitors, pupils and staff alike, read the inscription and realise a piece of history is buried beneath their feet."
Among the items buried were a digital recording of the recent school musical, Grease, and a video diary by pupils involved in a Government-run On Course scheme.
An aerial shot of the school building was also included, along with photographs of a concert and groups of pupils.
