CYCLISTS in north County Durham have a new guide to help them navigate the cycle paths of Derwentside.
The publication, called Cycling in Derwentside, aims to promote cycling to riders of all abilities.
The guide promotes the seven cycle paths in the district, such as the Derwent Walk route, part of the National Cycle Network, and the Consett and Sunderland Railway Path route.
The guide also hopes to encourage cycling as a sustainable source of transport, increase the number of local users on cycle routes and increase visitors to Derwentside.
Derwentside councillor Joe Toner, cabinet member and keen cyclist, said yesterday: "The cycling guide gives the opportunity to connect cycle routes in the area and gives increased accessibility for the local community.
"The guide is an excellent way of encouraging cycling as a recreational and tourism activity, and promote the use of sustainable transport and living a healthier lifestyle."
