A NORTH-EAST school is the latest to take part in a scheme to encourage people to eat more fruit and vegetables.
Darlington footballers and food experts visited the town's Eastbourne Comprehensive School yesterday.
The players refereed a game of five-a-side football as part of the Take Five campaign, which is aimed at encouraging people, particularly the young, to eat at least five pieces of fruit and vegetables a day.
Chef Noel Goulding was also at the school, demonstrating tasty fruit and veg options to the children.
Take Five coordinator Joanne Coady said: "On average, British children are eating less than half the recommended five portions of fruit and vegetables per day."
Darren Crofts, head of PE at Eastbourne School, said: "We place good nutrition high on our agenda and Take Five will bring home the message to our children.
