A MAILING company is taking on 20 extra staff at its new plant in Peterlee.
MetroMail is looking for computer programmers, production team leaders and operators, quality system administrators and maintenance engineers.
The firm, which moved into a new 90,000 sq ft plant at Whitehouse Park, last month, says more jobs may be on offer later in the year.
The company employs 180 people and has just invested £1.6m in the latest laser printing equipment. It is increasing output by 50 per cent.
MetroMail is responsible for one in three of all business mailings that leave the region.
Managing director John Poland said: "This is the first phase of our recruitment programme and we hope to recruit a similar number later in the year.
"The investment in laser printers means that MetroMail is now also a significant force in the printing industry and capable of printing a wide variety of jobs, including forms, stationery, invoices, manuals and technical drawings, as well as short-run print-on-demand applications.
