A BUS driver was taken to hospital with minor injuries after crashing his double-decker into a deserted bus stop yesterday.
The driver was pinned against the steering wheel of the bus, and had to be cut free by firefighters, following the crash outside the Robin Hood pub, in Durham Road, Sacriston, near Chester-le-Street, just before 2pm.
The bus was empty when it ploughed into the brick shelter.
A spokesman for County Durham and Darlington Fire Brigade said: "The empty double-decker went into the bus shelter, which, thankfully, was also empty.
"The man was pinned against the steering wheel and had to be released using heavy duty cutting gear."
The driver was taken to Durham's Dryburn Hospital with minor injuries
