GATESHEAD'S Labour Party members have welcomed a fall in the number of unemployed people in the town.
In October, unemployment was 4.5 per cent, compared with 5.2 per cent the previous year - the lowest jobless rate in Tyne and Wear.
Felling ward councillor Bill Dick said: "This is great news. There's so much work still to be done to bring even more employment opportunities, but the Government's prudent management of the economy is helping enormously.
"The regeneration schemes in East Gateshead will contribute to bringing down unemployment in wards like Felling."
