POLICE in Newton Aycliffe have issued a photofit of a suspected conman.
An 81-year old woman was in her bungalow on Sunday at 3pm when the man called and claimed to be carrying out fencing work. He said he needed access to next door.
While the man kept the pensioner talking in the garden, an accomplice entered the house and stole cash and bank cards. The men left in a white pick-up truck with foliage in the back.
The man who called at the door was about 20, 5ft 9in, and slim, with short, brown unkempt hair. He had a spotty complexion, spoke in a local accent, and wore a washed-out pink or red sweatshirt.
Detective Constable Colin Howey said: "There have been a number of similar incidents over the last week or two, but at the moment there's nothing to suggest they are linked."
Anyone with information is asked to call police on (01325) 314401, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111
